DEALING WITH SPILLS

Oil spills happen all the time in all garages, workshops and engineering environments. They’re dirty, toxic and a health and safety risk. Hence it’s very important to have appropriate spill kits to hand. This may in the form of absorbent granules or absorbent pads.
If your workplace contains anything that will spill, it’s important to have the right equipment on hand to deal with it. Make sure you prepare a spill kit contents list and store the items in an easily accessible location within the workplace in anticipation of any accidents that may happen.
Absorbent granules will absorb recently spilled oil, before it's soaked in too far. Pour on enough to cover the spill completely. The absorbent will soak up the spill which you can then simply sweep up for appropriate disposal, leaving surfaces clean, dry, and non-slippery.
Most Spill kits will contain absorbent pads to soak up the liquid and socks to contain the spill and prevent it spreading into other areas while you clean it up, particularly to prevent it from entering drains etc.
After encircling the oil spill with the socks soak up the excess oil with the absorbent pads.
